Book 5: Assistant to the villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer

I firstly want to start off by saying this book is no literary masterpiece, but if you are looking for a fun read this is definitely one of those books. Its fast paced and gives me fairy tale vibes. for those who want a quick summary: A girl goes into forest/Woods, girl then finds the notorious ‘Villain’, He hires her to be his assistant, they begin to fall for each other… the end. Your Welcome!

My rating: 3.5/5

Book 4: A court of thorns and roses by Sarah J. Maas

I believe that this is one of the most recommended books on Book-tok. I will not lie and say that I loved this book, however, I did enjoy reading it. In fact I stayed up until 4 o’clock in the morning just trying to finish it. This book is all about Feyre who is brought into this faerie kingdom by Tamlin, after killing another Faerie. As she begins spending more time with Tamlin in his kingdom she begins developing these feelings for him. At the same time there is also this darkness looming over the faerie lands and Feyre must find a way to get rid of it before it comes crashing down on everything she loves.

my rating: 4/5

Book 3: Six scorched roses by Carissa Broadbent

This book is part of the crowns of Nyaxia series and is a short novel. Although I haven’t seen many people on Book-tok rave about this book, I do know that the other (main) books in the series have been hyped up a lot in recent years. This book is amazing. I don’t read many short stories but this book has set the bar so high, I haven’t found a short story that has topped it. I even recommended it to friends who read it and loved it too.

This book follows the story of Vale and Lilith (who were both in the previous books) and how they both met. In short Lilith needs help saving the people of her village (from a curse) and so she goes to Vale (a vampire) for help, despite the long standing hatred between her people and his. Its a classic enemies to lovers story and is very quick and entertaining.

Book 2: Happy Place by Emily Henry

I could not put this book down. I don’t usually read much romance unless its in a fantasy book, and I was not disappointed with this book. It follows the life of Harriet and her ex-fiancé Wyn, who have not told their friends they have broken up. They are both invited on an away trip with the rest of their friends (who think they are together still). During this trip they decide its best to pretend they are still together for the sake of their friends and… that’s how far my recap can go without spoiling anything.

Th reasons why I love this book is because the characters are so relatable ( I saw so much of myself in Harriet) and the relationships between each character is beautiful. This book is about love, friendship and self-discovery and i think it was written really well so will definitely recommend.

My rating: 4.5/5

Book 1: Once upon a broken heart by Stephanie Garber

Okay, I may be a little biased towards this book because it literally broke me put of my 4 year reading slump (I was at school and thought I didn’t have enough time). I binge read this in a day and I missed meals and sleep just to finish this book. Now I read the first book last summer and have already finished the whole series (which in my opinion got a little bad towards the last book) and I think this is the best book out of the whole series. This book gives me the strongest fairy-tale vibes out of all the previous ones mentioned and I love the writing style.

The characters are my favourite and this was the only book I’ve read so far that made me think about the characters day and night. I would 100% recommend this book to any romantasy book lovers out there.

my rating: 5/5

I hope you enjoyed reading my quick ‘book-tok’ book reviews and would love to hear any of your own recommendations or reviews.
